December, the third instalment from Lontano’s album of stories about distance, looks at the way this time of year can brutally magnify the distance between people.
Whether the distance between us lies in our opinions, our feelings, or simple geography, there’s nothing quite like a time for togetherness to make us feel more isolated than ever.
‘December’ is a song for everyone who feels lonely during the festive season.
Sometimes, even if we’re usually comfortable in our own company, December can make us feel so lonely, we hurt. Sometimes, we have no say in the circumstances conspiring to separate us from our loved ones. Sometimes we feel our loneliest in the company of those who expect our presence. And sometimes, December makes us realise that our hearts have been invested in the wrong person.
Whether we need distance or proximity, December hurts less when we can choose who to share it with.
